Tracking Bobby Dean

We have a new MP, and so I thought I'd keep an eye on what he delivers vs what he said he would.
These are taken from his website and election materials sent out in the run up to his selection

FIX THE NHS

The NHS is special and I will always stand up for it. That's why I am fighting to:

  • Stop Conservative plans to cut A&E and Maternity at St Helier Hospital and deliver a new building and urgent repairs instead.
  • Recruit more GPs and cut GP appointment waiting times.
  • Give carers a pay rise and fix the social care funding crisis.

REAL ECONOMIC RECOVERY

My plan would make our economy stronger and fairer:

  • Boost high street businesses by reforming business rates.
  • Cut energy bills, funded by a windfall tax on oil and gas firms’ profits.
  • Build 150,000 new council homes across the UK every year and strengthen rights for renters.

PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT

Our environment is precious and I am determined to protect it. I'm calling for real action to:

  • Stop sewage dumping in the River Wandle and ban bonuses for water bosses.
  • Insulate more homes, including free retrofits for low-income families.
  • Invest significantly in renewable power so that 80% of the UK’s electricity is generated from renewables by 2030.

INVEST IN OUR FUTURE

My plan would give every child the best possible start in life:

  • Increase school funding per pupil above the rate of inflation every year.
  • Affordable childcare available to all with properly funded placements.
  • Put a qualified mental health professional in every school, making sure every child has someone they can turn to for help.

TACKLE CRIME

My plan would keep Sutton one of the safest boroughs in London:

  • Restore proper community policing, where officers are visible, trusted and focused on preventing and solving crimes.
  • Make sure all burglaries are attended by the police and properly investigated.
  • Invest in the criminal justice system to tackle the backlog of court cases.

FIGHT FOR GLOBAL JUSTICE

My career in international affairs makes me passionate about Britain's role in the world. I will:

  • Continue to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and work towards a two-state solution
  • Reverse cuts to the Army and ensure we meet our NATO commitments and obligations to Ukraine
  • Reinstate the 0.7% target for International Development and bring back DFID as its own department

Tennessee

Tennessee is a landlocked state in the USA and is bordered by the following states.
  • Kentucky to the North
  • Virginia to the North-East
  • Arkansas to the West
  • Missouri to the North-West
  • Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia to the South
  • North Carolina to the East
It ties with Missouri in having the most neighbouring states.
The main cities are Nashville in the centre, Memphis in the South-West corner, Chattanooga in the South-East and Knoxville in the East.

Geographical Features

The state is geographically split into 3 main areas of roughly equal size.

  • West Tennessee: This part of the state is mostly flat sandwiched between the Mississippi and Tennessee rivers. It's more prone to floods and earthquakes than the rest of the state.
  • Middle Tennessee: This is mostly within geographical features called the Highland Rim and Central Basin where a dome shaped landscape is formed with Nashville and Murfreesboro sitting atop it.
  • East Tennessee: This is mostly mountainous and is all part of the Appalachian Mountain Range, which runs from Alabama to the South, all the way up to Canada.
The 3 stars on the state flag symbolise these three areas, with the blue showing how they're unified and will never be unbroken.

Landmarks

Tennessee's top tourist attractions include:

  1. Graceland's. Located in Memphis this was the home of Elvis Presley and now serves as a museum to his life and career. Prior to covid, Gracelands was getting around half a million visitors every year.
  2. Nashville. This is the state capitol and also home to Country Music, which is very popular in the United States. A lot of the bars will have live country singers playing, and the the city is also home to the Country Music Hall of Fame which celebrates the musicians, both old and new. Taylor Swift sponsored the creation of a new education centre within the museum.

  3. Grand Ole Opry. This is a music venue located just outside Nashville and is deemed "Country Music's Biggest Stage". Getting to play at this venue typically springboards musicians' careers into the big time. As well as the venue, the Grand Ole Opry also hosted a popular radio show, which would promote the music around the country.

  4. Dollywood is an amusement park located in the Smoky Mountains. It's famous because it is owned by music star Dolly Parton. It's also one of the best amusement parks in the country.

  5. The Parthenon: Located in the Vanderbilt University area of Nashville, this is an actual sized reconstruction of the famous one in Athens built in 1897.
