I thought I'd take the opportunity to visit another capital over the Bank Holiday weekend. I'd left the plans to the last minute and not being able to get flights to Riga or Zagreb I got lucky with Ljubljana in Slovenia.

Slovenia is a tiny city with a population of around 27,000 a significant percentage of which is made up of students. This makes getting around the city without needing to speak Slovenian very easy indeed. I'd arranged for having 3 days here but being so small I got around the heart of the city in a couple of hours.
Looking within the castle, which sits atop a hill overlooking the city.
This is Lake Bled, an absolutely stunning picturesque lake with cliff top castle and an island with a church on it. Having got around Ljubljana much quicker than expected this detour proved to be a good idea. It's an 80-minute coach ride from the main bus station and costs around 6 euros by coach to get there.
