Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan

Ali G creator Baron Sacha Cohen takes his Kazhakstani character Borat Sagdiev out of his homeland to the U.S. for a tour and general piss-take of Middle America. Its similar to the TV skits but on a much bigger scale. We have plenty of anti-semitic, racists and homophobic jokes but somehow Baron has managed to get away with it.

The press are having a hullabaloo about how graphic Saw 3 is. There is a fight sequence in this film that is a lot worse. In the 70s Oliver Reed and Alan Bates had a naked fight in "Women in Love" that at the time shocked the nation. This film has a naked fight that shocked just about everyone in the cinema before we all realised how ridiculous it was. I doubt the reference was intentional, but it is there.

Some of the scenes work better than others. The dinner reception with the pastor and friends is hilarious, the winnebago journey with the frat boys isn't but most of the scenes do hit the mark.

Is this the funniest film of the year as the papers will have us believe? Probably, until Jackass 2 comes out that is. But this is very funny all the same.
