Travelling: Mouros Castle

The Moors Castle was originally built in the 8th and 9th centuries and served as a major viewpoint of the city, offering views out to the coast.

After a hair-raising bus drive up the mountain it was nice to get out and walk around the castle grounds. I bought a joint ticket and you can walk around the outside of the castle for free but to enter its center you need the ticket.

You can walk all around the castle, climbing the turrets and generally ensuring you've achieved your stairs climbing total for the day. Attendance today was pretty quiet with me encountering the same Japanese trio who'd ask politely if I could take their photo every time I caught them up.

A view from the castle. The view was terrific.

It's quite the playground which makes me think it's not original and probably has had some restoration done on it. Would you really let randoms walk over something this old?

This is a view of the castle from the Pena Palace nearby.
